Hi there I have just been on familysearch.org as I was hoping to find details of one of my relatives James Crankshaw(gggrandfather). As he was born before 1837 all I have is his wedding to Mary Eastwood in 1855 in Goodshaw. Fortunatley there was a listing on there for his wedding and his christening, but nothing else. The date of his christening was 3 jan 1830 in crawshawbooth, lancs. Would his christening record give me his parents details and where would i find them? I know marys father was thomas Eastwood born 1790 but I only have this from the census. Can anyone help me and tell me where I could find earlier details of my family? Without 1837online as back up I am completely stumped. Thanks

Christening records would be in the parish baptism registers in the relevant county records office. But usually they don't give much info other than parents' names. Sometimes they give mother's maiden name or father's occupation and a vague address. nell

thanks Nell. I was hoping it would give a bit more than that as my tree stops with this couple, and cant find info about the rest of their family other than there fathers names on the marriage certificate.

If you are lucky the family would have stayed in the same area so its a question of trawling through parish records - not just the baptism, marriage and burials registers, but also poor law records, quarter sessions etc. Records offices and local history centres often have a wealth of info, but often its a question of having a good nose round! nell
