My 'puter's been poorly. I just got it back (still not on fine form tho') & I can't get into my FTM 2006 & it's telling me to uninstall & reinstall the programme. That's all very well but I can't find HOW to uninstall the thing. I've tried putting the original disc in but it won't give me the choice of uninstalling. There are definitely still files on the computer but they've become a bit garbled.... bit like this request really!!!! Any ideas welcome....... Sarah :-) |

Sarah you uninstall something through the add and remove program system you can also do it by; Start Programs when you see FTM put mouse over it and it will come at the side FTM then underneath uninstall Babs Sarah I hope you have a BACK UP OF ANYTHING YOU HAD ON TREE OR A GEDCOM YOU CAN REINSTALL ON WHEN YOU PUT IT BACK ON;; |

Sarah, no computer whiz myself, but to uninstall it I would go to Start, control panel, add and remove programs. Browse down til you find your FTM program listed and then click on it and on the remove button. What about if you just put in the disc and install it (and ignore the uninstall) or cant you do that? Good luck. Thing is, do you have all your actual info backed up on to a disc cos that will disappear with it. |

Babs & Heather, thanks for your ideas but FTM isn't listed on my control panel. But I can find some of the run files on my D drive. The trouble is that I downloaded the free PAF programme onto D a few months ago & now it's all mixed up and I can't tell wot's wot!! (Puts knot in hankie to remind me to make a new folder for each download in future.) Do ftm 'application' files (- well, the things that make it work -) all have the same file extension??? there seems to be a lot of .dll things. Sarah :-§ in a muddle! I backed up to internet not long ago & I also burned a CD with my gedcom as well. (fingers crossed that one or both of these will help me save my tree) |

With FTM it is not usually necessary to uninstall. Close everything down that is running. Put your FTM2006 disc in and then Click on Install (towards the top right of centre) then just follow the on-screen prompts. This has worked for me in the past when something has become currupted. |
