Thanks very much to you both, Perranmaid and Betty Boo. Sorry I missed your messages, but I was out this evening. Really appreciate all your help. Perhaps, because he was born on a visit to USA, his birth wasn't registered out there. Thanks for going to so much trouble on my behalf. With best wishes. Natalie

Just discovered he was born in Brooklyn (according to a relative!) . Would be grateful if anyone who has access to Birth Registrations in this area could take a look. Many thanks! Natalie

Thanks very much for all your help. I hope it wasn't too much work for you. Such a shame he didn't have a more unusual name, as I can see the problem with a Howell from Wales. I really appreciate your efforts on my behalf. Best wishes Natalie

Sorry. Natalie without more info its impossible to find him due to the numbers of Howells in many parts of US. with the same names. Unfortunately there is not an 1890 census only individual states and there again without a possible state to give us a clue there are too many Williams approx birth date the same born in england to be of any use. I f you do manage to get more detail I will have another quick look. Best wishes Pmaid

So sorry, Perranmaid. Don't know where I got Mary from! It's definitely Jane Howell, as per 1901. Thanks for your patience! Natalie

Natalie Just checked the 1901census to get the age for William but mother is showing as Jane not Mary which is correct? or was she both?

Perranmaid. His birthday was 12 February 1891 (not 1890, as listed on the Census!)....but still no idea whereabouts in America he was born/registered. Would very much welcome any help you can offer. Many thanks. Natalie

Perranmaid - Thanks so much for your help. I'm researching this for a friend, so I'll e-mail her and see if she has a birthdate. All I've got at the moment is: 1890 in America! I really appreciate you checking this out for us. Best wishes Natalie

Natalie Any approximate birth dates to help to narrow them down. Any clues as to where in the States he may have been born? Had a first search and there are quite a few so need to thin them out a bit. Regards Pmaid

Can anyone help me trace birth of George H Howell. According to 1901 Census of Pontypridd he was born in America, parents William & Mary Howell. The parents travelled to US and he was born either at sea or on arrival. Can't find the family on 1891 Census, so I'm assuming they were still in America. Wondered if anyone with access to US Ancestry would be kind enough to check the passenger lists/1891 Census and see if they can track them down. They spent all their lives before and after this in Wales, so it's a bit of a mystery. Many thanks in advance. Natalie
