I have been looking for Ann Edwards who was born at Somerton in Somerset c1836 to Thomas and Mary Ann Edwards. No bapt record in parish register for her so I am unsure of exactly when she was born. I went through the 1861 census cross referencing all the women named Ann who claimed to have been born at Somerton in the 1830s with the Somerton PR and BMD indexes. I think I have found her on the 1861 census married to Emery at Othery. Everything seemed to indicate this was 'my' Ann so I bought the marriage cert and it shows her maiden name was Edwards but it says her father was Charles Edwards and not Thomas...this woman is still the most likely candidate but how can I be sure? The wrong father's name on the cert has me worried. Lynda

hi Charles could have been his middle name .I have found lots of different names for my rellies and found that some preferred using their middle name. My grt grandfather is Henry on some cert's but on his birth cert he is George.Found out his full name was George-Henry,I have others like this also.Hope this helps Regards Kat

where has her fathers name come from ? Presume from a marriage cert - what makes you think her father has a different name ( maybe you can only match with father of wrong name on census? )

Ozibird if that 1851 census is the same as the 1841 then Thomas senior's wife Mary Ann must have died and he remarried an Elizabeth. Georgina.

I can't believe it's 3 years since I started this EDWARDS thread! The family in Georgina's post is mine. Thomas and his first wife Mary Ann (nee WHITE) were the parents of the mysterious Ann EDWARDS. My descent from this family is via Thomas' second marriage to Elizabeth HIGGINS. I still can't find anything for Ann, she's a real mystery.
