If your ancestor was in an orphanage or workhouse, why not list which one and the dates they were there. Or if you think they were in an orphanage or workhouse but have'nt proved it yet, why not provide their details here, in case someone has come across the name in orphanage records. You might find that someone else had an ancestor there at the same time as yours. Please don't list living relatives here without permission. |

I found a good site that lists all sorts of schools. including training and industrial schools and institutions for disabled children: missing-ancestors.(com) remove brackets. |

Northamptonshire Archives has admission records for Northampton workhouse from 1901. Earlier records were apparently lost. J |

My gg grandfather was in the workhouse in 1901, his name was James Hegney born in Glasgow in 1828. He was listed as a pauper in St Barnabas Homerton Hackney aged 73. |

I have a relative who was a surgeon at Clutton workhouse in North East Somerset and found their death records on-line. Later deaths include date and cause of death. While doing a look-up for someone else I also found an interesting site for the Muller Orphanage in Bristol which gave a lot of background. |

my gt gt gt grandmother was alice ann maslin. in 1941 she was in devizes union workhouse wiltshire,but no sign of her parents. susie |

my g grandmother issabella mcdonald and her sister annie,where in the toxteth park workhouse from 1908- issabella was 10,her sister was7,both parents and some siblings all died between 1905 and 1908.xx |

My Grandad was born in The Strand Union Workhouse, Claremarket, London, in 1898. He was JOHN CHARLES SOMMERVILLE. I think it was used as an infirmary by workers as a 'lying in' hospital then. I also have a rellie who was born in the Ongar Union Workhouse, Stanford Rivers, Essex. She was LOUISA PERRY, born 1843 |

Peter O'Callaghan/Callahan my grandfather was born in a workhouse in Co armagh northern ireland DOB 02/04/1919 he was the youngest of six children and his mother died i think at his birth. he left ireland approx 1933 aged about 14 years and came to england where he remained all his life. we believe that his surname was Callahan and he added the O and g to make O'callaghan when he got to england. regards michelle |

JOHN WALTON NUTT 1901 aged about 13 years he was in KENTISH TOWN ORPHAN WORKING SCHOOL His father died in 1895. In 1901 I found his mum and brother (age 23) living together. His sister Elsie (age 18) was in service but haven't found his other sister Mary (age 15). |
