Yes, Merry, I could send up for that birth cert. Haven't tried to look for William junior on 1851 cenus. You're obviously more of an experienced sleuth than I!! Am at work so can't look up now. Regards Chris

Have you found the baby, William on the 1851 census at all?? I feel this would really help (or his birth cert if there is one).....at least you would know then if William's mum was someone other than Sarah. It could be one of those, ''I can't marry you, because of 1st wife not being dead'', type problems..... Merry

Glad Dea has been inspired by my name (really Chris P...was inspired by advert in early 70s when at school...was my nickname...clever eh!!!). Am so grateful for Heather & Merry's help. To sum up: I have all the stuff that was mentioned on the Censuses. William, therefore was born c1827 and his wife Sarah Hannah Forward was born c1829. I know that Sarah Hannah was a 'Forward' as I have the birth cert of their son Albert born 1854. I have also come across the stuff in the IGI, Merry. I really need to find marriage cert of S & W to confirm parents names are as mentioned in IGI. What I have found is a lot of info entered by someone who is researhing a sister of Sarah. their email address is not valid any more so can't get in touch...but want to verify their info. Thanks mates!!!

Well Dea, you could have chipped in for Chrispy's query, not just inform us you are going to have a nice dinner!! (See I said chipped - Im obsessed with food, I think its me age) Theres only one William Purcel (one l) born 1st quarter of 1851 and he is in Scarborough. Did she say she has the birth certificate for her William born c1850??

Heather

Heather Report 22 Mar 2006 17:36

Well if that is William visiting, no need for him to lie about being married was there. Wonder if she is in a workhouse with the baby or with a friend. If baby Wills was born Jan/Feb/March of 1851

Or a series of bells on strings, possibly.

Oh, Chrispy Noodle - I DO love your name - The addition of the 'h' in Crispy makes it sound even more delicious - I have been seeing it all day and have come to the decision - I am going to have to cook 'Chinese' tonight !!! Off to the chopping - out with me Wok's !!! - I'm going to enjoy this !! Dea X

Cant find sarah either - I suppose, if the kiddie was just born ................. No sign of William being apprenticed as a waterman - more likely a watermans labourer.

Heather

Heather Report 22 Mar 2006 17:28

No that guy is only 1 year out isnt he. But a waterman? I shall just consult my specialist records, whilst squinting through the blinds in horror of hubby not tripping the wire Merry.

Merry

Merry Report 22 Mar 2006 17:25

Sorry, we crossed....... I can't find Sarah or the son William in 1851. (or a William with a diff mother in 1851) Merry

Merry

Merry Report 22 Mar 2006 17:23

The one that is Chrispy's family is a Waterman You found the baker (single) and there is this one, below (married, but no wife of family in the house): William Purcell abt 1826 Hackney Visitor Islington Middlesex Correct place of birth. He is a labourer. All we need now is a candlestick maker! Merry

Merry

Merry Report 22 Mar 2006 16:56

Stop it Heather......trouble is, I wanted to ask which child(ren) Chrispy has the birth cert(s) for. The marriage may not be so early if Sarah wasn't the mother of all the children......but now Chrispy has gone and I haven't asked.....:o(( Merry
