A branch of my family were living and breeding in Calcutta from around 1873 for at least 40 years. Can any kind person direct me to where I may find out something about them? |

Thanks Suzanne, I have tried that. There is only reference to the Father's marriage, not one for any of the children. There is nothing regarding the surname on FIBIS either. |

Someone I know contacted the British and Orient Office (is it in Whitehall???) and was sent a package of documents about her rellies who lived out there (from 1870's to about 1900) and it was all FREE!! (I think!!!).....they were not army, but civil service people. If you think this is worth chasing, try googling, but if you can't find it I can email her and ask for more info, but she tends not to reply for ages! Merry |

Hello Jim, All records for India are held in the India Office Records department of the British Library. If you have a look on the British Library website there's lots of information about family history research. I went there for a day in November and had a fantastic time, the staff are very helpful and you can consult the parish registers very easily. They have an amazing amount of information, my one day was nowhere near enough! I think you can email them with requests, but I don't know if you have to pay or not. I'll just go and look up the website address for you. Helenxx |
