I've just been to parkers site after seeing the site addy, looks like it is going to be very useful just to put great uncle William near his railway station and granny to her hotel. Looks like a dozen maps may soon be winging along to me. Glen |

Try the following link for Greenwoods 1827 map. Not sure it goes as far as Rotherhithe though. http://users.bathspa.ac.uk/greenwood/imagemap.html Roger Update. Just checked, it does cover the area, but can't see Braddon Street (which doesn't mean it's not there LOL). May be it's too early? |

Hi everyone - the old bat here. Seriously, I thank you all for your input and references which I will explore. I don't have a very analytical mind so didn't know if my query was off the wall. My apologies for delayed response but was out socialising with family all day when a good laugh was had by all. Earlier this evening I couldn't access the message boards but problem now solved - well I did bombard genes a bit with their error messages. Merry, that reference to Roney Street is interesting as I have some relatives who were living in that street. THanks again. RIta |

It's on Booth's Poverty Map, but the street name is hard to read!! If you can see Paradise St, which has a dog-leg at the eastern end, Braddon street is the last turning on the left if you were walking down Paradise St towards the east, just before the dog-leg. Merry |

Right............Now I know exactly where it was!!! Looked at Historical Directories site and picked it up on a 1914 street listing.........it appears as follows: Cathay St* Fulford St* Braddon St Clark's Orchard Princes St Elephant Lane* Marychurch St* The one's marked * are all on my present day map just by King's Stairs. Presume the road you want would have been inbetween? Merry |

This is a real long shot, but if you go to this page: http://booth.lse.ac.uk/notebooks/b367/jpg/27.html You will see that Charles Booth was researching the area. Roney Street is apparently next to Braddon St, which I also can't find....but if you look through the pages, there must be some street or other you can identify on a current map (assume this is what you would have done had you been able to re-locate Braddon St on the 1901 census?) Once you know roughly where it was, you could try looking at the Charles Booth Poverty Map........ http://www.umich.edu/~risotto/ (click on Map) Merry |

Where can I find online old maps of South East London. I am trying to find Braddon Street in Rotherhithe. According to Gendocs the street was there in 1899. I know that the Braddon is mistranscribed on 1901 online as searched before and came across more by luck than judgement. I can’t find it on any census images that I have but am sure that I had one in my hand at some time in the past. Have tried to find it again but am stumped. What I am thinking is that if I can look at the surrounding streets it might be possible to work out the route of the Enumerators and possibly figure out a way of deducing the RG number. If this sounds too batty, forgive me but as an old bat it goes with the territory, Regards Rita |
