Just wondering has anyone traced their ancestors and found that both sides of their family come from the same ancestor, if you see what I mean? I recently found a couple, let's call them Fred and Gladys, Fred's nephew married Gladys' neice. It set me thinking. All this research must be making me go soft in the head!

We have two. My wife's third cousin Val married her seventh cousin. Their common ancestors lived in the 1700's. We also have details of another marriage in 1900 between a lady with the delightful name of Tamar Toon, to her fourth cousin, Andrew Sherratt. Look out for the children's webbed feet - that's a good indication.

Not yet. I have found that my mum's paternal grandparents came from a Gloucestershire village and that my dad's maternal grandfather came from a Warwickshire village up the road from it. nell

Have a great great aunt ( hubby's side ) whose nephew married her daughter - so the couple had the same grandparents - always told my other half that where he comes from the whole village are inter breed, looks like I wasn't too far off!!!!

Mt gr grandfather Titus White married his second cousin Alice Brewer. She then had a bit of a fling with a chap called Moncar - he bought some poison to kill the lot of them - Alice and their FIVE children but changed his mind and took it himself. (It was spirits of salts.) She then set up with the Moncar chap and had five kids with him - the first of which was born ONE YEAR after Titus died. My mother never knew her grandparents were related before they married - I expect the family kept that bit quiet !!! And, to cap it all, I have to show Titus' grandfather and Alice's grandfather - same chap - twice on GR as I can't link the second cousins!! Do love a good scandal ... Jill

I contacted a 1st cousin a couple of years back to confirm her New son in laws surname because of some info i had previously researched, she and her daughter and son in law have not spoken to me since??? My 1st cousins daughter Betty got married to Barney , I knew his family surname was also in our tree, it turned out Betty's 4 x Gr Grandmother was sister to Barney's 3x Gr Grandfather! so they were blood related from 150 years past, it wasn't an illegal marriage but you would have thought it was the way they reacted, Oop's,....... they are still married to this day i might add. well what do you expect in a small town, it will happen sooner or later!!! Obviously, I've Not used their real names!

Let's see if I can write this properly. My great grandfather had three children, one married and her mother-in-law was originally a Molofski (only a few of them in the books, less than 10). My great grandfather's sister married a Moldofsky. Not found the common relative yet, but I think it's there as the Moldofsky's kept changing their name slightly.

I had an uncle marrying his niece, was an easy one to find on BMD as they were both on the same page, with the same surname. He was 72, she was 32. Sylvia

I have traced one of my Great Grandmothers back 14/15 generations with certainty. Over and over and over again they marry cousins, second cousins, third cousins etc.In fact, for eleven generations they never marry anyone to whom they are not already related by blood. I am now investigating the possibility that another Gt Grandmother is related by blood to the other lot! My offline tree is a jumble of different coloured arrows etc, trying to show the relationships clearly - murder when they slip a generation by marrying a generation above or below them. I cannot show this clearly on GR tree and I therefore have 69 names which appear at least twice, which must make any potential hotmatcher think I am an idiot who has entered most of my names twice in error. I have John Everett Ashmore from my mothers side marrying Selina Ann Everitt on my dads side. FTM says John is my 1st Cousin 4 times removed and Husband of 2nd great aunt and the opposite for Selina. I think his middle name being Everett is just a coincidence but set me in panic mode when I first saw it. I am not brave enough to merge them Lin
