A long time ago, a very nice lady tried to post ''County Cork'' in her thread. She typed Co and then a dot, followed immediately by the word Cork. Of course, GR didn't like this one bit and corrupted her typing......I tried to explain, but I think the poor lady gave up in the end....I never saw her name again and often wonder what happened to her:o(( Merry |

Nudge! we seem to have alot of addresses being posted with brackets and docering that don't need to be again. |

How come GR can organise it so that we cannot post certain webaddresses without resorting to ()* etc and yet they can't put all the useful info they have on their site somewhere so people can easily access it? all the everyday questions we get on the boards about when was the census taken, where do you get electoral rolls, where to get a Scottish birth cert etc need not be asked any more freeing the boards for more difficult queries. OK, moan over, I'll get off my hobby horse. nell |

I did send a complaint about this to GR, but have not yet had a response. However, I won't hold my breath as they still have done nothing about problems we have complained about 2 or 3 years ago. |

I agree with Helen it would be great if GR put helpful info on the site, as it would save people having to tell me where to get things from! excellent idea - perhaps someone should start and thread and we all sign up to it??? |

its all well and good genes doing this but it affects our ability to write other things with c o in them, for instance a sentence beginning with the word conversely or contrary etc. |

and another thing-whats wrong or detrimental to gr in showing links to other refence genealogy sites ??This site is just the start and these sites that cant be advertised form the backbone of the information that is used to help people here which in turn makes this site popular because people are helped-their stance makes no sense and is self contradictory. |

Sorry if I sound stupid but why do we need to put (.) in at all? I'm glad it doesn't have to happen but I just don't understand it in the first place. Toni |

hiya'll I just think its easier to use the * instead of dots and brackets, and then just add, something like www*ancestry*co*uk replace * with dots Works for me!!! Julie :) |

babs123 | Report | 25 Jul 2006 23:54 |
Julie The point is, (excuse pun) there is no need to put in all those *'s www*ancestry*co*uk www.ancestry*co.uk will do, then the person copying and pasting the URL doesn't have to keep replacing all those stars with dots!! Regards Kat :) |
