I have Margaret and Thomas Williams in the 1871 & 1881 census with their family as follows:- 1871 RG10/1327 Folio 113 Page 44 1881 RG11/1365 Folio 32 Page 57 He is a decorator in one and a paperhanger in the other. In 1891 RG12/101 Folio: 20 Page: 38 GSU Number: 6095211 He is still a decorator has his son living with him who has aged 5 years! His wife has aged 11 years and now states she was born in Cork Ireland! I thought maybe his wife had died and he had remarried but seems too much of a coincidence that No 2 would be called Margaret too. Any opinions appreciated

Firstly Margaret is a relatively common name, so its possible he had two wives both called Margaret. Secondly, its also possible that his first son died and he named the second son the same name - I have several instances of this in my family tree. BUT Thomas Williams is a fairly common name - there's one in my husband's Welsh side! So its also possible you have two different families. Are they living at the same address throughout? nell

Hi Nell I don't think the son could have died as the 1869 one wasn't on the 1881 census but the 1874 one was. I agree with the common names tho' I'm fed up of trawling through death records looking for the possible death of the first Margaret! Will keep plodding through the census' looking for more Thomas Williams for the time being. I have spent all evening looking for possible marriages for the girls without much success. I haven't even got stuck into the Lewis and jones side of family yet LOL Yvonne

Sorry forgot to say they aren't living at the same address they were in Willesden in the '71 & '81 But the original Margaret and daughters were all born in Marylebone All of Margaret's family were from Marylebone

Not sure I understand ' I don't think the son could have died as the 1869 one wasn't on the 1881 census but the 1874 one was.' That was my point - the 1869 son - not on the 1881 census, could be dead, and the 1874 one named after him. nell

But its the 1869 one that is on the 1891 census not the one born in 1874
