Hiya potential cuz. Ive traced my line of Marriott's, they came from Derbyshire originally but were in Nottinghamshire in the late 1800s thru to the present day.

Dang. That's what you get for looking at those stupid surname boards and dredging up dead stuff. ;) No cousins for me.

Well, if anybody's ever looking for *that* Reuben's complete genealogy, there it is!

But have you traced your Marriotts back??

I have a completely different reason for asking that one. ;)

I'm actually a Marriott too, so ... we could still be cousins! Ha. Like ugly on an ape, I am. Can't get rid of me. Actually, I'm just after getting a hotel or two ...

This one's mine:

FRANCES MARRIOTT
Spouse: BERRY RUSHLAND
Marriage: 17 JUN 1780 Long Clawson, Leicester, England
Batch No.: M06035

They were the parents of the next in the line of Berry Rushlands, who married someone who called herself Frances (causing some moron to submit to the IGI that he married his mother Frances Marriott) but was probably really named Tryphoena Yalding.

They were the parents of a bunch of girls and two boys. The boys didn't reproduce -- and believe it or not, that appears to have been the end of the Rushland name in England. There is a property still referred to as Rushland Farm in planning applications, quite close to Marriott Bridge, I believe.

Daughter Elizabeth Rushland married Samuel Littler, then she died and he, er, shacked up with her widowed sister Sarai. Their son William Littler had son John Littler who married Alice Cooper, daughter of Reuben Cooper.

So ... if we're not cousins on the Cooper side, there are always the Marriotts themselves!

Although, I've come to realize that Marriott is not at all an uncommon name in England, so I won't hold my breath. ;)

The Reuben who was related to Cornelius died at war, without having children, so I now know he's not mine. My Reuben's father was Thomas Renshaw Marriott. BUT I have certs for Cornelius' family that I bought in error, so would be happy to give them away. Sorry to disappoint you Kathryn lol!

RS -- are you still there? ;)

I'm looking at the TTF Coopers, and your Reuben Marriott caught my eye, but because of this one in 1841:

Name: Ruben Marriott
Age: 15
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1826
Gender: Male
Where born: Nottinghamshire, England

Civil Parish: Calverton
Hundred: Thurgarton (North Division)
County/Island: Nottinghamshire
Country: England

Registration district: Basford
Sub-registration district: Arnold

Elizabeth Cooper 2
Maria Cooper 30
Cornelius Marriott 50
Hannah Marriott 15
Mary Marriott 55
Ruben Marriott 15
William Marriott 20
George Swinfield 30

I've given that Reuben the once-over myself, because I'm trying to find my Reuben Cooper born c1826 in Calverton and can't, and this one popped up in searches. See the thread I've just made:

ReubenCooper c1825 MaryAnnFallowell; CalvertonNotts
http://genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=980840

Note the Coopers in that 1841 Marriott household. And my Reuben Cooper's mother was apparently Sarah Smith. Why, thee and me are almost sisters already!

Here's that Reuben in 1851:

Name: Ruben Marriott
Age: 27
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1824
Relation: Son
Mother's Name: Mary
Gender: Male
Where born: Calverton, Nottinghamshire, England

Civil Parish: Calverton
County/Island: Nottinghamshire
Country: England
Registration district: Basford
Sub-registration district: Arnold
ED, institution, or vessel: 4a
Household schedule number: 71

Mary Mariott 67
Cardione Marriott 27
Chornetius Marriott 1
Hannah Marriott 24
Ruben Marriott 27
William Marriott 34

Cornelius aged 1 is the son of William and Caroline (I assume that's what the names are, w/o checking).

So he's the Cornelius in the 1881 census posted up above, married to Maria Cooper in 1874.

This looks like that Maria Cooper in 1851:

Name: Maria Cooper
Age: 1
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1850
Relation: Daughter
Mother's Name: Esther
Gender: Female
Where born: Calverton, Nottinghamshire, England

Civil Parish: Calverton
County/Island: Nottinghamshire
Country: England
Registration district: Basford
Sub-registration district: Arnold
ED, institution, or vessel: 4b
Household schedule number: 109

Ann Coope 26
William Coope 23
Alfred Cooper 3
Maria Cooper 1
Esther Smith 66
June Smith 4

She is of course the daughter of William Cooper and Ann Cooper, duh.

So much Cooper, Smith and Marriott intermingling. There are more Marriotts on that census page as well. The heads of household are all Framework Knitters, like my Reuben Cooper's father Robert on Reuben's marriage cert. Like everybody else in the vicinity, I imagine.

Per the submitted batch 7207530 in the IGI, this would be that William Cooper:

WILLIAM COOPER
Christening: 09 DEC 1827 Calverton, Nottingham, England
Father: WILLIAM COOPER
Mother: SUSANNA

and this is likely the household in Calverton in 1841:

Elizabeth Cooper 8
James Cooper 20
John Cooper 26
Joseph Cooper 18
Maria Cooper 15
William Cooper 50
William Cooper 13

My Robert Cooper who married Sarah Smith, my mother's mother's mother's father's parents, would have been born in the late 1790s or early 1800s in Calverton.

Do you suppose he was brother or cousin to William Cooper, father of William, father of Cornelius, father of Reuben your grandfather?

I think I got that right ... ;)

There is a 2 year old Eliza Smith on the 1901 census in Basford, who could be your Eliza, although with a name like Smith would need checking. I've saved the image. Kath. x

Searching for info/ancestors of Reuben Marriott who married Eliza (Liza) Smith in Basford, 1922. They lived in Nottingham, and had a son ,Clifford. Possibly other kids too. Clifford was born 1923; he was my grandad. I never knew him.
