Obtaining birth certificate

I have been away from the computer for some months now due to illness followed by a major op. I am now trying to pick up the threads of research but I am stumped - what has happened to the website where one could look up births, marriages and deaths and then order certificates from the Family Record Office? I have been on the Family Record Office website but cannot get into start looking. Any help would be appreciated.

This is the link to the GRO where you can order certs if that is what you mean, but for lookups it is as above, www.1837online(.)com http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate/index.asp#0 Certs are £7 each. Sam

The info from Sam is still relevant, even after this length of time and the GRO process is fairly easy, especially if you have the reference numbers required.

www*Ancestry*com is another website you want for looking up free births, deaths, marriages or www* rootsweb*com(instead of stars put dots ). It is well worth having a subscription to Ancestry as there are so many records on there and there are some special trial offers going. Good luck! M

if you google Cheshire BMD you can also see if the county that you are looking for is there - some counties have bmds and you can down load the form with which to apply for a cert.
