Ancestors in Ulster? This site might be useful!

Know how difficult researching Irish ancestors is, so anything that might help can only be good! Particularly aimed at Ulster genealogy, hopefully it'll be useful. http://www.ancestryireland.*co.uk/ Christine

Well, it does look good but you may not have noticed that to look at the details of a record you have to pay £10 (or £8 if you are a member of the Ulster Historical Foundation) and then you get 1 credit which you can use to look at up to 5 records relating to the same first name / surname combination! That will just basically show you up to five entries but you may still need to send off for the certificates from the Dublin or Belfast GRO offices which will cost you even more. I emailed them to complain about overpricing a while ago and was told they may be reviewing the pricing structure soon. Let's hope so! Still, if your ancestors made a habit of calling their sons after themselves it might not be too bad, but don't forget that you have to put middle names into your search as well, and if you leave a middle name out when it should be there you will not get a match. Hi Kate, thanks for that. I've just gone back and had a good look and as you say, it could prove very expensive! I have heard that they are reviewing the prices, lets hope they do soon! Christine
