Gloucester or Bristol please

The 1881 census shows my gg grandfather william butland b1841 living at 6 vine row bristol st michael gloucester england. Not sure if there is a district- st michael in bristol, is this gloucester rather than bristol gloucestershire. can anyone throw some light for me please????? |

I believe Gloucester was commonly used in place of Gloucestershire. See this page for Bristol parishes, including St Michael's www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/GLS/Bristol/Parishes.html nell |
