alice, just dont know_ there is only one Albert born in that year showing in the 1871 census that was born in the village - of about the right ages - Albert Thatcher - so not only is Newport Mistranscribed, it seems 'Albert' is too. Shows no other Newports in 1871 either (born in the village).Even tied Bert!! ~jess~

Despite his identity crisis you found him on the two censuses Jess. Wonder where he was in between. Maybe one of the marriages will provide a clue - but I wonder which is the most likely. He was married by 1891 - so that rules one out. Thank you all again for your help and for being so patient... Alice

The next time I find him is in 1891 when he is a coachman at Hoveton Hall Norfolk married to Ann who was born in Oldham lancs about 1863. I cannot find him in 1881 but in 1901 he is the landlord at the Anchor Inn at Coltishall Norfolk. I cannot find his marriage nor trace any children he may have had ( I guess these would probably be on the 1881 census if he had any). Any help would be much appreciated Alice
