Hi Lou, it's apparently only the womens MICs that are being taken by IWM, as Jim has said in his post. There's another site 1914-1918 stressing this point too. Certainly saving some is better than none but such a shame if they are splitting them and ruining the indexing - unless the womens have been kept separately anyway over all these years. Think we've still a fight on to keep ALL the MICs safe from destruction not just some. Can someone please correct me if I'm behind the times on this. Jan :-)

Vivienne Elaine Pennell-Shawcross had a thread on the Records Board a week or so ago about the medals being saved by the Imperial War Museum Lou

I have just copied this from the Western Front Association's website stop press. Medal Index Cards Friday, 18th March 2005, from Bruce Simpson Many people will have read or heard about the proposed destruction of the Medal Index Cards. The WFA has learned today that the Womens MIC are to be preserved by the Imperial War Museum. The Western Front Association are in negotiations with the Ministry Of Defence regarding the future preservation of the cards, and hope to have a positive outcome shortly. Thanks to everyone who has sent messages of support, it is greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, owing to time restrictions, we are unable to reply to everyone individually.

Lou I think because theres a general election, there hoping to destroy them now, as they think there will be liitle publicity regarding the medal cards and they will be able to destroy them with little fuss. Ive also had a reply from my MP, she is waiting for a relpy from Jeff Hoom regarding the matter. Julie

And with a General Election in less than 6 weeks time it wouldn't do to upset the voting public. Wonder how many people outside the world of genealogy realise how little they seem to care about British History Lou

A little late in ariving, but David Chidgey my MP has also come to our support about WW1 Medal cards. Reseved a Letter today Supporting our stand and that he has writen to G. Hoon about them. He states 'They are Unique Historical documents' and agrees they should be saved. Well done David.
