If he was in WW1 you should be able to find him in the medal roll index on The National Archives site. After that, I don't know, I'm afraid. nell

How can I find out if he was in the war - either or both?

Unless there was a divorce, they would be married until your gt grandmother/or gt grandfather died. Hopefully you can get your grandmother's birth cert and find gt grandmother's death after that. It's a nuisance, isn't it. I was wondering if you could find out what he was doing in WW2, but its a bit needle/haystack. I know he would be too old to fight, but he might have been in the homeguard. nell

Nell, I don't know when she died either. I know it was just after my Grandmother was born, so they would have still been Married, I think. He's not on Ancestry unfortunately lol My family aren't the easiest people to find lol My GGrandmother died very young. This I know. My Grandmother was brought up by her sisters. This I also know. What she tells me, is that Robert left her because 'she cried too much' (her words).

Tracy There is no quick and easy way. Assuming he is dead, if he died after about 1982 I think it will be on the Ancestry site, but before that it means trawling through all the GRO death indexes (4 quarters to each year) till you find him. Is your gt grandmother a 'wife of' or 'widow of' on her death cert - this would narrow down when he died. nell

I've 'lost' my GGrandfather. He was born in Leeds in 1892, but after my Grandmother was born in 1919, he disappeared. I don't know where he went or when he died. What's the easiest way of finding out?
