Tinkers, in olden days, were basically travelling salesmen who sold pots and pans. Now people often refer to travellers and gypsies as tinkers. Some would say the word gypsies refers to Romany Gypsies, but again the word often gets used to mean just a traveller. To me a traveller conjours up hippies on buses (but that is because of my age!!) Interesting how the usage of words changes Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Sailor conjures up professional people yet Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves conjures up a different picture all together Sorry, what was the question? Dee :-)))

I wouldn't have thought there was any difference. Just depends what people in a particular area call them. Kath. x
