May I suggest that a very simple way to find some ancestors may be to do a Google search on that family name. Just enter the request for the Family tree of Your name or even more specifically for the person you are looking for. Sometimes this is a mine of threads to follow and sometimes opens the doors to a lot of info. John

Hi John I was pleased to see your thread because it was someone on here reminding us to Google that led me to a huge family! On Googling the family name, I found an excellent one-name website .. run by an aunt that I never knew existed! I would definitely recommend Google!! Mandy :)

I agree. I searched on the name of my great grandfather and discovered 19 direct ancestors of my great grandmother, all researched by my mother's 2nd cousin who happened to be chairman of a genealogy society.

A really good search engine is Lukol www(.)lukol(.)com This combines google with several other good ones.

I had some more success with google , it's definitely worth trying if you have hit a brick wall but be sure to try a variety of searches including ones with full names quoted, e.g. ''Joe Jack Bloggs''. Regards, Andy www.familytreediscovery.net

Through googling I found out - about a gt gt gt grandfather's settlement dispute and the reference and where to go to look at the full records. - a list of colleagues my dad worked with at a bus garage - photos of the font where various ancestors had been baptised - details about a listed house my gt grandfather was born in - that the father of my gt grandfather's 2nd wife was briefly suspected of being Jack the Ripper - phone numbers, addresses, opening times of various archives and resources - the details of burial for a pair of gt grandparents - what a birth registration 'by declaration' meant and far, far more. Go and google, its gorgeous! nell
