do you know Jim, i was just reading a similar query.. that he could have been born in 1840 depending on the month falling into the 1841 census... Is this why i could not find him? feel an idiot now! Many thanks jim for your help, its very much appreciated. Em,

Looking at an atlas Lilleshall is very close to the present day Shrops/Staffs border. When the new district was created in 1837 perhaps the residents either didn't like the idea of being 'moved' into Shropshire or never quite got used to the idea of what was part of Staffs now being in Shrops. So when he was born in 1841 in Lilleshall (Shrops) perhaps his parents always referred to it as part of Staffs???? Perhaps he might be on a census for Shropshire rather than Staffs??? Only an idea, partly based on experience - when Hereford & Worcs were all 'one' county recently people still always seemed to refer to their 'old' county i.e Hereford OR Worcs, never the full county name!

Could be as today when they muck about changing boundries. You are used to saying you were born a certain place.Middlesbrough used to be in Yorkshire. Then it was Cleveland. Now Teesside. My birth cert says Yorkshire so thats where I was born.Margaret

Don't take too literally the places listed on censuses - I have numerous members of one family born variously in Lower Gornal/Sedgely/Dudley which are apparently in Staffs, Worcs and Warks all at the same time!! Do you have details of any family members he may have been with at the time?

I am running round in circles over a certain ancester... His name is John Wright. He was born in 1841. I found him on the 1881 census living in Ogley Hay, staffs. On the census its stated that he was born in Lileshall, Staffs. so i went back to the 1871 census and found him again. And again it states he was born in Lileshall staffs. I have no further resources so i asked on here for a 1851 census lookup for his birth. I did not want an 1841 as i wasn't sure he would be on it. A kind lady called barbera, mailed me back to say there is no Lileshall in Staffs... so she looked under Ogley hay, and there was an entry.. but its not him. Then i found a nugget.... in1837 a new district in Shropshire was formed, taking some villages out of staffordshire and putting them in a new district called Newport, in Shropshire. The thing is... this new district was formed in 1837.... and John was born in 1841... so why did he keep putting staffordshire in the later census' for his birth? And where do i l go now?? lol. I am at a complete dead end with him now... i cant find his birth anywhere the rascal! :((
