> I lost by just 50p. All you know is that the succesful high bidder was prepared to bid *AT LEAST* 50p more than you. That was all it took for them to 'win' the auction. They could in fact have put in a proxy bid that would have bid a lot more if necessary, so you don't know how much you 'lost' by at all..... you might have put in another bid and still lost. Cheers, Bill |

I have some earlier cd's, but made a terrible mistake with one lot. I bought an 1841 set from Stepping Stones, but half of the pages are either so faded or so black that they can't be read. I have just bought the same census from S&N, who use a different photographic technique and I have not come across one single page which I have not been able to read. If you get the chance to buy a name index with them take it, it saves so much time. I am really miffed because I have been out and missed the end of an ebay auction, I lost by just 50p. OK I have had a nice lunch and lovely walk, but I really wanted those discs! Bah Humbug. Linda. |

Hi Laird Archive CD Books are quite good and they also sell on Ebay - careful watching of the auction can sometimes get you a CD cheaper than he sells it on his own site. Sue |

Laird I think you need to advise eBay too that people are offering what they cannot provide. A friend of mine does a lot of 'business' LOL on e-Bay and he has set up his Paypal account to accommodate payments. Jan :-) |

Yep - sniffed around the complex EBay/PayPal sites and found you can cancel a payment that hasnt been 'collected'. |

Hi Laird I hope you puled out of that deal. They should have stated cost of postage in listing,& anyway that sounds a lot of money to me. Vivienne |

......... frustrating cos I cant help with those. In an attempt to make a start, I purchased 1841 London on EBay last week - the seller has just contacted me to say they had no idea how to use PayPal (which was the advertised preferred payment method) and hence wanted a cheque and £10 postage. Which is not nice and makes it virtually the same price as S&N. Anyone recommend which 41/51 vendors are best, and a good cross-section of counties to start with ? Thanks muchly folks. |
