Daniel The Prayer for the Dying is in the Book of Common Prayer I think. It is not the same as the lovely poem quoted here by Laird and Lou. It is many years since I went to Church, so cannot remember exactly what it says, but it is along the lines of begging mercy for all sins and going to the Lord with a clean conscience. It is NOT, incidentally, the same as the Prayer for the Dead, which is something else again! Perhaps you could nip into your local Church and have a look? Marjorie |

The Serenity Prayer God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Is that the one you remember? |

Hi Daniel If I'm thinking of the same one (and not one specific for executions!) I thought I had it somewhere cos it was read at my sister's funeral. I THINK it's called Prayer for the Dying - The Serenity Prayer, try googling and see whether that throws anything out unless someone else has any other ideas! Lou |

Got a newspaper artice from 1886. It describes the hanging of a man for the murder of his wife. It is written that he was read the Prayer for the dying. Does anyone know where I can find out what was said? Thank you |
