Zoe Thanks for that. If he was considered problem enough to be locked up they wouldn't just let him out, he would be sent to a secure place somewhere. I would have thought that Holloway prison records would be at the London Metropolitan Archives but I can't actually confirm that, though I have tried a2a and googling! nell

Nell not sure if Shane is still around so I can fill you in a bit the offence was late 1890s as I went looking for him in 1891 to see if he was in or out of prison. It was heard a Thames Police Court and he was sent to Holloway Prison (before it became all woman), but due to the recently introduced Criminal Lunacy (or something similar) Act they didnt know whether they could keep him there or not. hence the need to find where Holloways records are kept to see if they reveal what happened to him (imprisoned or simply let straight out) Cheers Zoe

Prison records are often kept at the county records office. You don't say when this offence was committed, but if you give me an idea I can look in my vast document on prison records sent me by another GR member. nell

I have found my GGGrandfather in the Thames Police Court archives. He's classed as a Pauper and a Launatic and was there for Exposing himself to person. He had been remanded at Holloway Prison but where would i find the records? I have tried the National archives to no avail. Please help. This is driving me up the wall!!!!!
