My Great Grandfather Thomas Gates was a platelayer and was killed on the railway at Bushey Water Trough, on 21st October 1897 and an inquest was held on the 23rd October 1897. Family stories say he was hit by the 'Royal Train'or could this have been the 'Royal Mail'! I contacted the Watford Observer to see if they reported it, but unfortunately they do not keep records that far back and suggested Watford Library who keep copies of every issue ever printed. Could anyone do a checkup at Watford Library to either prove or dispell my 'Royal connection'!!!! I would be eternally grateful.

Not my neck of the woods, Brenda, but I have found that if you e-mail and ask nicely, provided you have a rough idea of the dates you want, they will look it up and send you a photocopy for around £2-3 depending on how many pages. nell
