Death Cert.

Michelle Whether or not a death cert would be of use depends on what you want to know. I quite like ensuring I have 'killed off' my relatives. I'm also nosey about what they died of. In one case it was very useful to me... I had a great-grandfather called Thomas Matthews. I knew he lived in Islington but looking for a Thomas Matthews somewhere in Islington without an address was a nightmare and the only census he was on was 1871, where he was mistranscribed. I was able to find him because when I got his wedding cert it had his father as Emmets Matthews. I knew this was right as Thomas' first son was Thomas Emmets Matthews. There was only one Emmets on Freebmd - a death cert, so I got it. Found Emmets had died in Whichford, Warwickshire, which I'd never heard of, and then found the entire Matthews family on the census, including in 1841 and 1851 my Thomas! Often the informant of the death is a close relative which can help in working out relationships. nell

Hello everyone, could someone please tell me what information is on a death certificate as I have never seen one before and also would it be of any benefit to my research to send for it. Michelle.
