I've never been able to find my great aunt's birth and have come to the conclusion that her birth was never registered, although she was born in Newcastle, about 1900. I'm hoping to find her in parish records but needed to narrow down my search, hence I purchased birth certs for two of her sisters. The first born in 1896 has the address down as Brighton Grove...this matches with where they were living at the time of the 1901 census. The other sister was born in 1903 and the address is shown as Rosebery Crescent, just off Jesmond Road. In later years, they lived at Millfield House in Jesmond Dene. What I'd like to know is, based on that information, where is the most likely place they would have been christened?

Helen, it's a very faded stamp on the 1901 census. Roy, not sure how much use the LDS site will be circa 1900. Crista, funnily enough, I think it was you who helped me try to find this troublesome great aunt, some time ago. :-) They are: Kathleen WATTS, born 1896. She has a twin brother Reginald Hanhart WATTS. Nancy WATTS, born 1903. Madeleine WATTS was my great aunt. Because I don't know exactly when she was born (she's younger than Kathleen but I think older than Nancy), I'm trying to narrow down where I think she was christened. Based on where Nancy was born, I have a feeling she was probably christened in Jesmond Parish church. I was hoping someone with local knowledge might be able to confirm what I'm thinking. Andy

Andy, I think the parish would be Elswick. Crista

Hi Andy The 1891 Census pages for Brighton Grove had St James, Benwell. This is crossed out and St Augustine, Newcastle is written in it's place. Regards Helen K

thanks for all your replies, will make a note of those churches. So Brighton Grove falls under Elswick. Any ideas about Rosebery Crescent as I think this is in Jesmond?

1901 census lists the ecclesiastical parish as Clayton Memorial. There's also St Georges. Crista
