I have the marriage cert of Ann Walker to Thomas Hatter Wass in Sheffield in 1875. Ann's father is named as George, occupation Smith. I've spent most of the evening trying to find Ann and her parents in 1871. Ann gave her place of birth as Sheffield in the 1881 Census (living in Notts. then)

As far as I know her father was still alive when she married. One of the witnesses was George Walker (father or brother?) the other witness was Mary Wingfield. I can't read the church to know which area of Sheffield they married. As far as I know Ann didn't have any children before marriage. I really want to be able to send for Ann's birth cert but there are too many possibles.

Helen... If you look at the LDS site and 1881 census for Walker, East Markham, Notts... There is a William and Rebecca a few houses away from Thomas and Ann on one side and George with a wife a few doors away the other side... is this just coincidence, all of them living in the same street? Anne.

That's brilliant! Thanks very much.

I'm even more puzzled now. George Walker aged 25 cannot be Ann's brother as they are the same age but George born East Markham, Notts and Ann born Sheffield, Yorks. Possibly cousins, and William and Rebecca could be this George's parents, Ann's Aunt and Uncle? Therefore William is George (snr) brother?
