The Sit nomen decus - May my name be an honour is attatched to the Worsley surname.

Hi Geraldine, I did a web search and one return was that it is the motto of the Royal Australian Artillary Association of Western Australia....did your relative belong...or found it or something...have a look. Joan Cancel that...the image isn't right and it's too late on to be connected. sorry.

We have a gold signet ring with red seal insert that has been in the family for at least 150 years that we know of. Where and when it came from we can't find. It belonged to my gg grandfather (born 1852 in Australia.) His father had emigrated from England in 1824. The motto is 'SIT NOMEN DECUS' in a belt/cinch with the buckle at the bottom. Inside this is a swan with wings 'rampant' /raised and neck extended. The swan is standing on something (unsure what) The family name was Counsel. If anyone can suggest research sources to help us find the origin/meaning of the seal and whether it is part of our family history it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Gerardine
