coroners inquest reports

Alistair Firstly, make sure there WAS an inquest by getting the death certs. This will give you the inquest date as well as the date of death. Secondly, it is unlikely the coroner's report has survived - they were routinely destroyed. But there should be a report of the inquest and possibly the original event in the local newspapers of the time. Local newspapers are kept on microfilm often at the county records office or central library or local history centre. I have myself found a small para about my gt grandfather's death in 1879 in the local paper. If you can't go to the relevant office yourself, you might be able to get the staff there to find it and send you a copy for a few £. Having the exact date makes searching much easier. nell

Alistair Report 29 Mar 2005 23:00

I have three ancestors who met with tragic deaths. First William Anderson Fraser in Dundee in 1941 at King George Warf, Dundee. Killed in a crane accident. The second Charles Balharrie drowned in 1884 at Terminus Quay Glasgow Dock, and Lastly Alexander Balharry killed in 1878 in an accident at Braehead Mill, now part of Glasgow. Where can I start looking for Coroners reports and newspaper atricles? Thanks Alistair
