Question about certificates from local register of

I have collected quite a few certs over the past year, all of which I ordered from the GRO at Southport, and it is clear that they are copies of copies, i.e. all the information was copied out (by hand) into the books which are now held at Southport, and then when you order a cert a copy is done from that. But I have recently got a few certs from Belfast and it looks as though the signatures on those are the actual signatures of the participants, not written out by somebody else. If I order a cert from a local register office in England instead of from the GRO, will the signatures on it be the actual ones or just copied out by someone else? I am particularly thinking of a register office marriage in 1899 at Hampstead, and two births in Hackney in 1908 and 1909. Can anybody answer this question? Kate. |

They will be copies of originals (many hands) or they will be typed copies. I think you would need to contact the appropriate office to find out what they normally do. |
