Thanks Helen. I've got to send for a death certificate and as it's a common name I want to give some idea what the wifes name might be. There going to love me with all these alternatives :)))) Chrissie x

Looking at UK BMDs on Ancestry brought up these Those that sound like girls were Pemily, Pemila, Pemella, Pemla, Pemler, Pemlar, Pemaly, Pemelia and Pemmy. Pemila (and variations) was the most popular. Boys seemed to be Pemberton and Pembroke.

Thanks Shirley. I would never have thought of Emma. All I could imagine was possible Pamela, but that would be Pam, not Pem. I'm sorry, I never think about Googling. Chrissie

just put in a google search with pem genealogy and came up with one site that had emma in brackets after pem as first name. so poss could be emma shirley

Has anyone got any idea what someones name was likely to have been if they were nicknames Pem please? Chrissie
