would i be able to apply for copies of my Grandfather and his Brothers WW1 medals, as their are lots of other Grandchildren in the family how can i sort out who is next of kin, any info would be much appreciated. Tina

I'm not really sure about this, but I think that as long as you can prove you are a grandchild, then the first one of you to apply will be able to get the medals. I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will be able to tell you. Kath. x

Tina WW1 medals were sent out to the serviceman or his next of kin in the 1920's. Maybe some family member has them now? Copies are not given. Have you seen his medal entitlement on the NA website? Ian

I know that my Grandfather won a medal for Valor that was supposed to be handed to my father but to cut a long story short and for reasons i cant go into on here another family member has possion of it, as i know i dont have a cat in hells chance of getting it back i would have loved a copy to go with my Dad's medals to be handed down to my Grandsons but it seems through your replies that this will not be possible. thank you anyway for your replies. Hi Tina, my dad was in the same situation as you, all his fathers medals went missing!! He applied and has recieved copies of them since, hope this helps. Deb

Tina If your gfather was awarded a medal for valour/bravery, he may well be listed in London Gazette, its worth having a look, at least then you will know what his award was and possibly a description of his conduct which led to the award. dave
