Missing BMD's for my GGrandfather

Manxlass Report 28 Mar 2005 18:54

Hello, My dilemma/brickwall is: My paternal family were born in Saltash, Cornwall. To date, I have only found GGrandma and her children, one of which is my Granddad John Robert SHIRLEY b. 1891 in Saltash, Cornwall. His father, my GGrandfather was called John Walter SHIRLEY according to the birth certs of the siblings. John Walter was 'presumed' ( I have no proof ) to have got married to Mary GLANVILLE - illegitimate child of Ann GLANVILLE b. 1854 in Saltash, Cornwall. Mary was aka formally HOSKING ( her stepfather's surname ) on some of the children's birth/marriage certs. I have looked on many ' pay to view sites ' from 1837 upto 1920 for any BMD entries for John Walter SHIRLEY and the only one that I have found was for a marriage in 1854 to a Caroline FOX at Gretna Green. In 1899 on a marriage cert for my GAunt, which took place in Stoke Damerel, Devon, John Walter was listed as father to bride - occ: Mason's Labourer. I have also looked on censuses from 1841 - 1901 in Cornwall/Devon without success. Please can anyone suggest where else I can look? This is so frustrating:0(( Kind Regards, Carol LLOYD nee SHIRLEY

Carol Have a look here to see if there's an online parish clerk for your area. My Cornish OPC gave me 5 pages of relatives the day after I'd sent a simple e-mail asking if she had any info on my gt grandmother! http://west-penwith.org.uk/opc.htm nell
