Birth registration query!!!!

I don't think it was that unusual. They had 42 days in which to register the birth. Could she or her mother have been poorly after the birth? Most of mine were registered by the Mother. If she couldn't get to the registry office because of ill health or the child wasn't expected to live and the office was some distance away the registration could be delayed. (No point in going to some distance to register the birth if there's a chance you might have to register the death the following week) |

And of course if anyone is looking for an event which happened in Dec, the registration might be in the following year! Generally marriages are registered the day they occur so should be in the right quarter. Deaths are usually registered within a few days as people want to get the death cert for insurance, sorting out Wills etc. Births are the ones that often take longest. I did my first son's the day after he was born as the registrar visited the hospital then, but 2nd son was almost forgotten & I had to send husband out to register him in the nick of time! nell |

Linda, You have 6 wks to register the birth. So she may not have been registered until mid July. The quarters are for when the baby was registered not when it was born. Pat |

My Gran was born 31st May 1898 which is April/May/June quarter. When ordering certificate she was registered in July/Sugust/September quarter. Is this usual? Linda |
