I have looked through 1869 births on 1837online but can't find a birth for Ada Mary Bassindale. Is her marriage the one in 1893 and is her husband Hampson or Mellor? If you could find her in the census, her age may be different as a lot of people either lied about age on marriage certificates or just did not know their correct age. Kath. x

If her married name IS Mellor, then after finding her in the 1901 census with age given as 31, I searched 1837online again, and went through 1867 to the end of 1870 but still can't find a birth for her. The census gives her birthplace as Manchester. Registration didn't become compulsory until the 1870's, so perhaps she wasn't registered for some reason. Kath. x

On the 1871 there are loads of Bassindales from Belton and Butterwick. These are small villages just outside Epworth. I'm sure this must be the area where your family came from.

Might be worth asking for an 1861 Licolnshire lookup on the records board to find John and his family before they moved to Manchester. Perhaps John had died by 1871?
