OLD LETTERS? CAN I TRACE THE WRITER?!

Hi, I have some letters that my Grandmother (Dad's Mum) received from a soldier in 1930. The letters have the soldiers name and regiment on them, and I wondered if it was possible to find out more about him. My Grandmother didn't marry, he left her at the altar, and my Dad never knew his Dad or talked about him! There is no father's name on my dad's birth certificate but on the marriage certificate there is a fathers name. Although the Surname is the same as the writer of the letters the Christian name is different. Could this be my Grandfather who wrote the letters?? Cate :)

The army number should identify this person, BUT I don't think you can get access to army records from the 1930s unless you are the next of kin, and I don't see how you can prove this as it is what you are trying to find out! From the Army Records Office website: Officers or Soldiers whose regular or reserve service ended between 1921 and 1997 Army Personnel Centre HQ Secretariat Historical Disclosures Mail Point 400 Kentigern House 65 Brown Street Glasgow G2 8EX nell
