Hi Heather, Don't mean to appear stupid but I am quite new to this, where can I find the familyrellies site? Gloria

That would take a bit of time as they would all have to be put on a data base, then checked, as they are now typing them they must have a lot already, but not sure if they are on a data base. Look how long its taken freebmd not moaning as they are doing a great job. Irene

Hi Maurice, If you have an fairly uncommon surname to trace you could look on the Guild of One Name Studies site and see if that surname is being researched. One of the requirements for a researcher to register their one name study is the BMDs complete from 1837 to date, for that surname. Most people who develop a one name study will have extracted the BMDs plus census information, will indexes and parish register entries etc. Always worth a shot. Carole

I did mail them about this some months ago, but got the usual, we are always trying to improve our service, thanks very much. Family rellies, when working on the 1866-1920 is SO good, its a pity 1837 havent done the same system.

Great idea everybody! However, I should just get a positive mention in for good old 1837 ... since doing my last major search, maybe a year ago, they have indeed improved the indexing - now you can go right to the page instead of getting a page range and having to take a stab at where your surname would be, thus wasting credits. So, I'm sure they'll take a suggestion on board, they seem to have been quite diligent in the past. Regs Jane

Perhaps we should all write to 1837 and register a need for a faster method of searching. Maurice

Maurice Yes, you can do it - but not on 1837online! You need to use the familyrelatives website, which is fully searchable between 1866 and 1920. Records after that date (up to 1983) haven't been transcribed as yet, but are promised soon. Richard

Maurice I am sure this would be welcomed by searchers, but imagine it is presently impossible, otherwise 1837 would be doing it! nell

Instead of us having to wade through years of BMD records looking for one name, would it be possible for them to have a simple name search akin to that used for searching census information? For instance input Fred Bloggs and the year span, like Free BMD and obtain a list quickly to order from, showing all Fred Bloggs entries. Even if this cost a bit more it would be worth it. Perhaps the computer experts out there can advise, whether this is feaseable, as searching from 1901 to the present day is a nightmare at the moment. I feel even more sorry for those searching Smith & Jones on 1837 currently. Maurice Nunn
