GRO-Check you Credit Card Statement

Susanne I never order without the reference and anyway I hadn't ordered any certs that was why I noticed it. My alert was to anyone who had used them in the past because it looks like they may be charging anyone who have used them in the past, using kept credit card details. Brenda I'm not sure but I would avoid it anyway as you can get a better service from the website everyone is quoting. Barbara

I would only ever order direct from the government official website. I have done this with no problem at all for the last 2 years. When you pay online, you get sent an e-mail to confirm this which gives you the amount spent, a transaction number and the date and time the payment was made. I also print out details of what I have ordered. nell

The only site I would use is 1837(.)(com) com just follow the trail for ordering certificates. Have you changed your credit card numbers yet if not than I advise you to order a new card know. At least if they try this again it will be blocked. Irene

Barbara, It is just as well that you checked your statement. It looks to me like someone put the . in the wrong place i.e £115.00 instead of £11.50 which is the price of a cert without the reference number. Sue:-)

Barbara obviously already knows this, but for anyone else, it is worth remembering that one of the benefits of using your credit card to pay for goods is that the Credit Card company will automatically reverse your payment without you having to contact the offending company, if you tell the Credit Card co what has happened. Sorry, that seems a bit garbled so I hope it makes sense! I had a big hoo-ha with Argos who swore they had delivered some furniture to me and that I had signed for it.They were extremely rude and unhelpful and gave me the big run-around. I had paid up front with my CC so I contacted the CC co, who immediately reversed the payment and dealt with Argos on my behalf. It turned out that the 'signature' they had obtained was in fact the imprint of a pen rolling across the electronic signing-pad! And the furniture was languishing, undelivered in the Warehouse. When you order online with the site http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp WITH THE FULL GRO REF, the price is £7 check the site out and see, if you pay anymore online then you are being done Margaret

ROS I don't know if we are talking about the same site because I certainly didn't pay £25.00, I paid £8.50 until they put it up to £9.00. I don't think anyone will be using the site at the moment because you can't access it, I just wanted people to check their bankstatements if they had used them in the past. Barbara

This is also on records board. I have posted this on that. This company is under investigstion by the police. It is not the same company that you order on the gov site. That is: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp Margaret

This is not the official GRO site. This is a company which charges £25 for a certificate and £50 for express service which takes 5 days. They are a rip off. You can get a certificate for £7 from GRO or local registrar. Don't waste your money. Ros

If you have ever used the website GRO-certificates.co.uk to order you certifiates check your Credit card statement. I have used them in the past but not since December but find they have taken £115.00 from me when I received my statement. The Website is apparently Temp off line. I have emailed them but my email has been returned as address unknown. Barbara
