I am now back as far as 1845, how do I get beyond that? How did you get to the 1500's? |

Civil registration started 1st July 1837 and the first census for genealogy purposes was 1841. Earlier than that, you need to go to parish records - church baptism, marriage and burial registers, poor law records, etc. Most of these are in county records offices, but some baptisms and marriages are on the International Genealogical Index. You can find out which parishes and which years are covered by googling 'Hugh Wallis batch numbers'. You can then do a search if you find a batch relevant to your family history. This info still needs checking with the original registers, however. nell |
