birth before 1837

The reason sites start at 1837 is because civil registration came into being on 1st July 1837. Before that, you have to look in parish baptism registers. Some of these can be found on the IGI [google 'Hugh Wallis batch numbers' to take you to a site where you can see which parishes and dates are covered, and then you can do a search if they have what you want]. Otherwise you will have to go to the parish registers which are held at the relevant county records offices. nell |

For pre-1837 you could try the IGI on www.familysearch.org which is free to search. For post 1900 births you could use 1837online, but this is pay per view. Kath. x |

does anyone know of anysites i can use to find a birth before 1837, most sites only seem to go that far back, also any sites that tell of births after 1900 thanks julie |
