Hi. I am unable to find the birth registration of my great grandfather Frederick Benjamin Fordham. He married in 1911 and gave his age as 22 years. This suggests he was born in 1889. I have him on the 1901 and 1891 census. The name of the head of the household also matches his birth certificate. Using 1837 online i found the index number in 1889 and ordereh his certificate. However the certificate i received today has two completely different parents to that of the census and marriage certificate. I have now searched between 1887 and 1893 with no luck. What do i do now. I know he served in the army so would have had some proof of birth as i have come across this before ( a letter passed down the family of an ancestors declaration of why she forgot to register the birth etc for her son to join the army). Any ideas where to go now would be greatly appreciated...

Any chance his is one of those that didn't make it through the transcription process from Local RO to GRO? If so, you could try the Local office - some have searchable online sites - see www.ukbmd.org.uk for a list of links. Christine
