Born 1826 in Plymouth, he wasn't living with either father or stepmother in 1841, and is not on the 1851 census for Devon. Family legend said he was brought up by his Aunt Helmer. In the space of one afternoon I have located Aunt Helmer in Bideford in 1871 (courtesy of Ancestry advanced search, not a penny paid), found her death in Freebmd, AND found Adams living with his aunt in Plymouth in 1841, thanks to Origins. Adams Edwards was the very first ancestor I was ever interested in. I won't say how long I have been looking for him, but when I started I was younger than Anonymous Link. I'm turning virtual cartwheels here!

Thank you all! As I'd searched all of 1841 Plymouth the old fashioned way and clearly missed Adams, I would never have found him by myself. I always thought that if I did find him in 1841, he would be in a school or working as an apprentice, so proving a legend 164 years old is really icing on the cake. A very happy B

Brenda That's fantastic news, really pleased for you. You be careful now doing those cartwheels or I'll be having to send you a card next. Thank you so much for mine, meant a lot! Lou xx
