Hi, Although the site is for tracing family, I wondered if anyone has any tips are on how to trace back the history of a house, obviously there is the deeds to the house, which I plan to look through, but other than that is there anything else? The house isnt very old it was built around about the 1940's/1950's but im intrigued in to knowing abit more about earlier occupiers... is it possible?

A nearby main library might have old electoral lists, which you could check. (nothing for War years) You might then find them in parish records, depending on their age and how long they were there. With names to guide you, you could also check on this site or Friends reunited for matches in the relavent time frame.

Your local library/museum/history archive would be a good place to start. There are also lots of books on this subject and you could probably find more info if you google. This is The National Archives online research guide: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/househistory/ nell
