On 1981 census John Webb not listed in family. George Webb is listed as 4 years old. On 1901 census John Webb listed as 11 and George Webb listed as 13. Going to buy birth certificate for John Webb. Have found one John Webb born 1890 in Poplar and one born 1892 Poplar. Is there possibility he could have been missed off 1891 census. There was no father Webb listed for either boys. Their mother (then housekeeper) married Head of Household and went to have have 4 children. Very odd. Any suggestions please. Thanks Pam.

Hello Jess. Thanks for reply. Mary Webb married head of house in 1891. Strange she had been working there with George listed as 4, son of housekeeper. Mary Webb was down as housekeeper. Married George James Hone in 1891 who was head of household. Not sure what happened to first wife (still looking for her on 1837online) they had 4 children. John Webb born 1892 by all accounts. Have searched for ages. Think I need to get birth certificate to find out name of father!!!!! There are 2 George Webbs born in Poplar in 1988. George James Webb and George Charles Webb. Which would you choose? George and Mary went on to have 4 more children. Best wishes, Pam.

Pam Regarding which George is the right one - are there any clues in which quarter they were born as related to age at the time of the census? If not, you could use the mother's name as a checking point when ordering, but it is quite possible that there were two Mary Webbs giving birth in Poplar. Perhaps you could specify the street in which the birth took place, assuming Mary had the baby at home? nell

Hello Nell, The plot thickens! Both George Webbs were born in same quarter. Have found George James Webb's marriage in West Ham in 1908. I know he lived there. May have been double wedding as John Webb married in same quarter in West Ham. (Presuming correct John Webb) Going to order marriage cert for George Webb which should show father's name. Both marriages in same volume but different page nos. Have spent a fortune on 1837 online. Saved lots of pages so hopefully can help someone else at some time. Thanks for help. Best wishes Pam. Will keep you informed.
