went to the cemetry in which my great granddad & his parents are buried - yet only to find a giant space where thei headstone should have been. *Starts to cry* Some headstone where placed on their backs as they were classed 'dangerous' - but there was just a big gap (about 3 or 4 headstones not there) would the headstone been removed & then placed somewhere else - or taken away for good?

Here in north staffs they are currently doing an 'unsafe memorial' exercise. Basically laying flat all unsafe headstones. They then write to the 'owner' of the grave and advise them that it needs to be made safe. If the grave is really old and the 'owner' has moved or died, I think they just leave them flat but probably remove them after a period of time. Sam

thats happened to me once; went to see my G grandmothers headstone only to find it not there, find out later on that apparently my great uncle had got some special people to clean it or something, (which i don't beleve) but is what my nan told me! maybe you should contact the council/borough or something?
