Thanks, I have Irfanview and have tried explorer and various other programs. All I get is a picture of a floppy, which doesn't seem to want to open. Regards Bob

You can also open GIF files (and several other graphics file formats) with Internet Explorer. From the File menu, select Open... then click the Browse... button, change the File Type (last box) to 'GIF files', then browse for your GIF file and click OK. Richard

Hi Robert. .gif is a grahic format (photo) you can open this in any Photo Editing software, if you have not got one on your system go to www(.)irfanview(.)com and download their free Photo viewing program. It's a very good freebie and will open and save just about any graphic format going. Good luck Ron www(.)genealogyprinters(.)com

I desperately need help. I have been sent some family files which are in GIF format. When I try to view with a GIF viewer all I get is a picture of a floppy disk. If I use slide show it shows the names of the files, but not the file. The person who sent the files has gone away for a few weeks and I can't find out anything about them. I suspect that they are something to do with Ancestry. com but am not sure. Has anyone any ideas on how I can view these files please. Regards Bob
