Hi, I have just received my 4 xGreat Grandfathers and Grandmothers marriage certificate (on 2 lines)and now have their fathers names. But what now? All four Fathers would have been born and married before 1837 so no certificates and all I have is their name and occupation!! Really don't know how to go back any further! Advice greatfully received!! Cate :s

You could check the IGI at www.familysearch.org You could ask for a lookup on the 1841 census, this would give the wifes name (if you don't already know it). Other than this once you get before 1837, its the parish records I'm afraid! Sam

Hi Sam, Have looked through IGI but the names are fairly common - bar one, so no luck yet. I thought that parish records was probably going to be the answer. Thanks for taking the time to read and reply! Cate :)
