Hi Claire & Tracy, The BVRI has births/baptisms and marriages from the whole of the British Isles. Some areas are better covered, than others. Is searchable by almost anything! First name, surname, date, area, fathers name, etc, etc. This is the statistics from the package: British Isles Vital Records Index, 2nd Edition The British Isles Vital Records Index (2nd Edition) on compact disc contains information from birth, christening, and marriage records from selected parishes and other sources in the British Isles. The records are from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and the Isle of Man. This set of compact discs includes and updates the 1998 version of the British Isles Vital Records Index. The British Isles Vital Records Index (2nd Edition) includes: Civil and church records dated from 1530 to 1906. Approximately 12.3 million total records on 16 compact discs, plus the Family History Resource File Viewer disc, which is used to view the information. Birth and christening records that include the individual's name, parents' names, and date and place where the event was registered. Marriage records that include the individual's name, name of spouse, date and place of marriage, and parents' names when available. Reference information that helps you locate original records on microfilm. Please note that this set of compact discs does not contain all available records from this time period or from these localities. The time span, content, and availability of records vary greatly from parish to parish within each county. Records have been transcribed more completely from some counties than from others. Some names found on these compact discs may also be found on the International Genealogical Index (IGI), produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You can buy the discs from LDS Distribution Centre 399 Garrets Green Lane, Birmingham, B33 0UH Tel: 0121 785 2200 Fax: 0121 789 7686 give them a ring to find out the current price. Good news is they come with Resource file viewer 4.0 which enables you to do more complex searches on your 1881 CD set. The 1881 set which includes Scotland, unlike the online version, is also available from the above address. dave

Apologies for seeming to ignore the questions asked. Like Clare got side-tracked on another board, then had to go to work. Think everythings been covered by others, thanks. Tracy, Quite the opposite. The search facicilites are very good and very quick. Can search by any possible combination of names, dates, areas. Debbie

If you'd like a look-up on the discs before you buy I'd be happy to do so. Not all areas are covered. There's basically no coverage for London.

Before you all rush out and buy the CD's, those of you with Ancestry subscriptions already have access to the much of this data:

England & Wales Christening Records, 1530-1906:
http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=1351

England & Wales Marriages, 1538-1940:
http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=1352

I don't have the CD set so cannot confirm whether they are exactly the same as the Ancestry records or not, and Ancestry don't seem to include the Scotland & Ireland records. But for England and Wales, certainly check out the Ancestry databases first (you can do a free search of the index, even if you're not a member).
