Does anyone know a good website for names?

My eyebrows were raised earlier today when I found a possible male ancestor with the unlikely first name of Amorous. However, my poor brows are now somewhere up in my hair (not an attractive look!) having just discovered another called Abednego. I can hazard a guess about Amorous but I have no idea where Abednego comes from. Louise

Hi Louise found this on the Behind the Name site ABEDNEGO Gender: Masculine Usage: Biblical Pronounced: a-BED-ne-go [key] Extra Info: Namesakes Options: Contribute Information Means 'servant of Nebo' in Babylonian, Nebo being the Babylonian god of wisdom. In the Old Testament Abednego was the Babylonian name given to Azariah, one of the three men cast into a blazing furnace but saved from harm by God Christine

Thanks Christine. I'll make sure I keep a note of that website. I haven't needed it before as I come from a long line of plain names but all of a sudden that seems to be changing!!! Louise

Thanks Diane. Another good site with lots and lots of names but unfortunately not my two! How typical is that? Cheers, Louise

Love that name! 'Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego obeyed God's commandments and would not worship another god.... ' I just found. :-) Joy

Thats right, Meshak, Shadrak and Abednego - there used to be a song about them!! I can still see in my mind the pic of them in a biblical story book auntie bought me (very religious) all back to back, hands and feet tied and the flames not touching them!

I'm impressed that you guys remember. Can you still sing the song Heather? I either missed Sunday School when they did that story or (more likely) was in the back of the class room chatting and giggling with my friends!!! Anyway, I hope that I can confirm him in my tree as the name is a standout against all my Williams and Johns. Louise
